Software Crash on Initializing OR Loading Icons OR Generating Cut Job

Background

The Silhouette Studio software stores custom cut settings (blade/thickness/speed setttings) and user option selections in a local preferences folder. Errors in this folder can result in various crashes or malfunctions of the Silhouette Studio software. The deletion of this folder is a minimally invasive troubleshooting procedure that has been shown to resolve a number of issues. Known errors that this procedure will resolve:

  • Software continually "Loading Icons" on startup
  • Software failure at "Initializing" stage of startup
  • Persistent or Interrupting "Generating Cut Job" message
Procedure

Please do the following to clear your Silhouette Studio software preferences. Please note that this procedure will result in the removal of user generated cut settings (blade/thickness/speed settings) and user option selections: 

On a Mac:

  1. Close the Silhouette Studio software
  2. Open the Finder
  3. Press CMD+SHIFT+G
  4. Type in ~/Library/Preferences
  5. Press Return
  6. Delete the Folder com.aspexsoftware.Silhouette_Studio with all its sub-content
  7. Empty the Trash
  8. Re-open the Silhouette Studio Software

On a PC:

  1. Close the Silhouette Studio software
  2. Press the Windows key (lower left, between CTRL and ALT) and the R key on your keyboard simultaneously
  3. Type in %appdata%
  4. Press Enter
  5. Delete the Folder com.aspexsoftware.Silhouette_Studio with all its sub-content
  6. Empty the Recycle Bin
  7. Re-open the Silhouette Studio software
