Library corruption issue

A library corruption can be presented in a variety of ways. As such, the following symptoms are not exclusive to when the resolution should be used.

Often, the issue is presented when one of following is being experienced:

  • The software crashes on start-up when it hits the point of trying to load the library
  • The software crashes when the library or Silhouette Design Store is accessed
  • There are images that in the library that are not working (which are shown to be otherwise working in testing at Silhouette America®) despite removal and reindexing is performed

There is a corruption in one or more components in the library resource folder.

Please begin by attempting to Reset the library by doing the following:

NOTE: This action will completely remove the entire library, including all user-created content that have been saved into the library. This includes the removal of the actual library folder structure. You may wish to first back up any user-created images prior to deleting this folder by opening them and saving them as a STUDIO file on the computer or removable memory drive (such as a USB flash drive).

Preferences Option

  1. Update to the latest version of Silhouette Studio
  2. Open the Silhouette Studio® software program
  3. Go to the Edit menu (PC) or Silhouette Studio menu (Mac)
  4. Go to Preferences > Advanced
  5. Select the Reset Library option
  6. Recover the library for download content

Manual Reset Option


  1. Close the Silhouette Studio software
  2. Open the Finder
  3. Press [Cmd]+[Shift]+G
  4. Type in /Library/Application Support
    • May alternately be located by typing ~/Library/Application 
  5. Press Return
  6. Delete the folder com.aspexsoftware.Silhouette_Studio.8 with all its sub-content
  7. Empty the Trash
  8. Open the Silhouette Studio Software
  9. Recover the library for download content as directed at


  1. Press [Windows]+R on keyboard simultaneously
    • [Windows] key is between [Ctrl] and [Alt]
  2. Type %programdata% into the Run box
  3. Press Enter
  4. Delete the folder com.aspexsoftware.Silhouette_Studio.8 with all its sub-content
  5. Empty the Recycle Bin
  6. Open the Silhouette Studio software
  7. Recover the library for download content as directed at
