Section 4: Removing your cut items
Now that you have your image cut out, we are going to remove your material and cutting mat by turning the feed knob counter-clockwise, or in other words, towards you.
Once your cutting mat is out of the Silhouette, you may peel material off of the adhesive surface of the cutting mat and remove your design. Though you may of course do this by hand, depending on the size and intricacy of the image you have cut, you may also use the Silhouette Universal Hook tool to carefully remove your cut items from the mat.

As images are being cut, the cutting mat will usually also be cut into with the image you are cutting. Please be assured that this is normal and that you are not doing anything wrong. The cutting mat will continue to be marked with whatever you are cutting. You will be able to continue using the cutting mat for some time, even though it will eventually appear to be marked-up with multiple patterns. You may, of course, lower your thickness setting in the Controller window. However, in order to successfully cut through most materials, you need to use a higher thickness setting that will penetrate into the mat as well. We might additionally suggest that as you use the cutting mat, it be rotated from end to end with alternating cuts so as not to favor one particular end of the mat. Doing so may allow your cutting mat to last longer.
